This project will enable students to work alongside various writing communities in the Midlands region to create audio stories and spoken word poetry. There is a wealth of written content being produced that would benefit from the media production and acting skills of our students in order to produce high quality audio content, which would then be distributed online and via local community radio. Students from the School of Acting and School of Media will collaborate with local writing groups.
The core partner in the first phase of production is 'Writers Without Borders', a long established Birmingham writing group made up of members from diverse backgrounds; many of who are published poets and authors.
Other partners who have expressed an interest in the project are; ‘Writing West Midlands’ - who have a range of writers looking to convert various stories into audio books and poems – and the ‘Writers Guild’ of Birmingham.
- Students will learn industry specific audio production skills and generic employability skills such as collaboration and team work.
- Results of the production (audio books, poetry, radio dramas etc.) will be distributed to the wider public and also made available for future students to access and learn from.
