The aim of the project is to allow current students to offer peer support to second year undergraduates who undertake a two-week study tour to sites across Europe over the Easter vacation. The Insider’s Guide is hosted on the University’s iVLE, Canvas. The student team of Insider’s Guide Ambassadors gather and prepare content for the Guide, including accommodation reviews, which are mapped onto an interactive Google map, information about transport, budgeting tips, as well as information about specific sites in Greece and Italy. The projected was piloted in March-May 2017 and will be fully launched in September 2017 with a larger team of Ambassadors. The project has been generously supported by the University of Birmingham’s Alumni Impact Fund.
The overall aim of the project is to offer increased peer support to students undertaking a Study Tour, easing the pressure on academic leads, in order to improve their experience of the Tour.
Create an online resource containing information collected from final year students who have completed a Study Tour, much of which is not available elsewhere.
Give final year students the opportunity to support other students, enhancing their communication and IT skills.
Greater student involvement in the running of one of the Department of Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology’s flagship modules: in addition to offering peer support, the Ambassadors will gather students’ views of the tour and suggest potential changes and enhancements.
